As we have now chosen our genre of music, although not yet decided on an artist, we can begin to think of locations that we can shoot in.
For rock/alternative music there is a number of different places in which we could set our music video, however there are a few common locations that are often used in professional videos that we could recreate in ours. These include:
A forest/wood,
This location is often used in music videos as it creates a moody and creepy atmosphere which can sometimes go with the song. The music video to Radiohead-There There is one example of this.
If we were to chose to film in a wood then there are a lot of places around maidenhead which would fit, such as the thicket.
An abandoned building,
Another commonly used location is somewhere abandoned, quite often this place will look run down and old, with graffiti, litter and debris around. This is used a lot as it gives a raw, edgy feel to the video and this works with the genre of punk and rock. An example of this is Blink 182- Stay Together for the Kids.
School,
One of the most common locations, especially for these genres, is a school. As a lot of artist’s music can be aimed at teenagers it makes sense to have music videos set in a school as it means the audience can relate to the music. Hinder- Without you, is a music video set in an American high school.
Obviously we could film at our own school, Newlands.
Church,
One more popular location to set music videos in is a church, this is because a majority of churches have been around for a long time and therefore have an old, ancient and quite creepy feel to them and this can be quite atmospheric. An example is Franko-Vienna.
We could film in St. Joseph’s church,
